Liow plans to challenge decision of ROS in court
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai intends to challenge the Registrar of Societies’ decision to reinstate Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek as MCA deputy president in court.
Liow, who was appointed the party’s deputy president during the Oct 15 central committee meeting, said the MCA now had two deputy presidents. This, he said, followed the decision by the registrar to reinstate Dr Chua to the party’s No. 2 post.
Liow said his appointment to the party’s deputy presidency was done in full compliance with Article 23 of the party’s constitution.
“There should not be any issue, doubt or query on this matter,” he told reporters at a press conference after attending the central committee meeting here yesterday.
The conference was also attended by MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, Wanita chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun and nine other central committee members.
He pointed out that the central delegates at the Oct 10 EGM had voted against resolution number three, which had called for Dr Chua to be restored to the deputy president post.
Liow said that once the EGM adopted the resolution, it became an order which the central committee had to implement, and which it had done so in its meeting on Oct 15 by invoking Article 174 of the constitution and declaring the post vacant.
Central committee member Wong Nai Chee, who is the coordinator for the group of CC members who sent a requisition to call for a second EGM, said he would discuss with party secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng and legal bureau chief Lim Hong Sang over the matter.
“We will have to resolve certain issues and the EGM must go on to allow 2,000 central delegates to decide on the future of the MCA,” he said.
