Former Umno Wangsa Maju secretary charged with graft
KUALA LUMPUR: A former Umno Wangsa Maju division secretary was charged in the Sessions Court here Thursday with offering a RM1,000 bribe to a branch head to get himself nominated for the post of committee member of the division last year.
Ramli Abdul Manan, 50, pleaded not guilty to offering the bribe to Amir Saad, 50, head of the Taman Melati Umno division, at the Taman Melati community hall, Setapak, on Nov 8 last year.
If convicted, he could be jailed a minimum 14 days and a maximum 20 years and fined not less than five times the bribe involved under Section 10(b)(aa) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997.
Judge Rosbiahanin Arifin allowed bail of RM2,000 with one surety and fixed Dec 4 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Syafinas Shabudin appeared for the prosecution while Ramli was not represented. -- Bernama
