Parliament: Various agencies vetting TV programmes
By ZULKIFLI ABD RAHMAN
KUALA LUMPUR: The vetting of television programmes aired by RTM and private television stations are managed separately by different agencies, Deputy Information, Communications, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum said.
He said the RTM panel that oversees shows and programmes aired on its channels adhere to its own broadcasting code of ethics on dressing, performance and presentation.
“The RTM panel reserves the right to reject programmes and request a reshoot even if it had earlier been approved by the Malaysian Film Censorship Board,” he told Datuk Abdul Manan Ismail (BN-Paya Besar).
Salang said content aired by private television stations are controlled by the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and vetted by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
“Private broadcasting stations are also required to provide programmes which promote local content and local and national cultures,” he added.
