In court for offering RM1,000 bribe
KUALA LUMPUR: A former Wangsa Maju Umno division secretary was charged in the Sessions Court here with offering a RM1,000 bribe to a branch head to get himself nominated for the post of division committee member last year.
Ramli Abdul Manan, 50, pleaded not guilty to offering the bribe to Amir Saad, 50, head of the Taman Melati Umno division, at the Taman Melati community hall, Setapak, on Nov 8 last year.
If convicted, he could be jailed a minimum of 14 days or up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the bribe involved under Section 10(b)(aa) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997.
Judge Rosbiahanin Arifin allowed bail of RM2,000 with one surety and fixed Dec 4 for mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Syafinas Shabudin appeared for the prosecution while Ramli was unrepresented. — Bernama
