Skudai rep gets death threat
By DESIREE TRESA GASPER
JOHOR BARU: Skudai assemblyman Dr Boo Cheng Hau of the DAP said he has lodged a police report after receiving a death threat at his home in Taman Universiti here.
“My son first discovered the writing on my house doorbell, saying ‘death’ in Chinese and the word ‘bodoh’ or stupid in Malay,” he said during a press conference at his home on Friday.
He said that this was the third time he had received threats, adding that it was “inevitable” especially when he raises issues that were sensitive.
He claimed the threat could have been made by parties not happy with his highlighting of certain environmental issues recently on logging and deforestation, but admitted it could have also come from disgruntled party members.
“As public figures and politicians, we tend to step on people’s toes whenever we raise certain issues.
“This is especially when the issue raised affects people’s business interests,” said the state opposition leader, who is also state DAP chairman.
He said that he lodged a police report on the matter on Nov 4 as he was worried for his own safety and that of his family.
Dr Boo said he previously received death threats in 1998 and in 2003.
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Ruslan Hassan said police were investigating the death threat.
