Pakatan awaiting registration before deciding on line-up
KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Rakyat is consolidating itself with details such as its leadership line-up to be hammered out at a later date, said PKR strategy director Tian Chua.
He said Pakatan Rakyat was awaiting the outcome of its application to register the opposition alliance so that it would become a legal entity.
“The key is to be registered so that we can get on with the task of strengthening Pakatan Rakyat,” he told newsmen at the Parliament lobby yesterday.
Tian Chua was commenting on reports that Pakatan Rakyat had applied for formal registration and that former minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim had been suggested as its chairman.
However, Tian Chua said the leadership issue had yet to be discussed as the priority was to register the three-member alliance.
“The constitution, logo and leadership will be decided when the registration is approved. Who holds what position is at a much later stage,” he said.
He said Pakatan Rakyat was also strengthening its secretariat and drafting a common platform of policies.
“It is like registrating a brand name for your company,” Tian Chua said.
Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said Zaid was entrusted with implementing the formation as he had a legal background.
“As a person with legal background, Pakatan Rakyat has entrusted him and his team to do this,” he told newsmen.
