Monsoon prompts step-up in slope checks
PETALING JAYA: Checks on slopes for risk of landslides have been stepped up now that the monsoon rains are here.
The authorities, prompted also by the recent landslide near Rawang on Tuesday, have identified other landslide-prone areas dotting Hulu Klang, Penang, Cameron Highlands and Kuala Lumpur.
Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said Public Works Department district engineers had been deployed to inspect slopes during the year-end monsoon season

The Malaysian Highway Authority has also been told to ensure that highway concessionaires monitored slopes.
Local councils are also keeping watch over slopes on land that is out of PWD’s jurisdiction.
Drivers are urged to be more alert travelling in hilly areas during rainy season.
