TI-Malaysia re-elects Low as president
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Paul Low, who resigned as Transparency International-Malaysia (TI-M) president in October, was re-elected to lead the organisation at its extraordinary general meeting on Saturday.
The meeting, which was attended by 50 members, voted for Low in a unanimous decision.
The new exco consists of new deputy president Prof Datuk Mohamed Ali Hasan, secretary general Ngooi Chui Ing and six executive council members. Three resolutions were passed at the meeting which mainly addressed the Global Corruption Report, which was released in October amid controversy.
The first stated that TI-M endorsed and supported the report that cited the Port Klang Free Zone controversy as the biggest scandal of the year.
The second gave solid backing behind the words and actions of the president relating to the report.
It also pledged full financial and other support for the society including any claims, suits and proceedings arising from the report.
The third resolution authorised the starting of a legal defence fund that would raise money through public donations, among other things.
Ngooi said that members presented a fresh mandate to Low as he had acted honourably by resigning.
Low still remains as chairman of the Port Klang Authority ad hoc committee on governance.
He said that there would be no conflict of interest as he was not involved in any investigative procedures.
