Kendong Gang duo killed in shootout
By MARTIN CARVALHO

MALACCA: The house break-in and robbery spree of the armed Kendong Gang is believed to have ended - two of its members were shot dead by police along the Sungai Udang-Air Keroh-Selandar (SAS) highway here.
The incident happened shortly after midnight yesterday when a police patrol car on its crime prevention rounds in Bertam Ulu spotted the occupants in a Proton Waja car behaving suspiciously.
End of road: Police checking the vehicle that was used by the two members of the Kendong Gang after the shootout at the SAS Highway Friday morning. The policemen decided to tail the car and was about to pull the vehicle over when it sped off, resulting in a brief high-speed chase along the highway leading from Ayer Keroh to Sungai Udang.
The suspects then tried to ram the patrol car but because of the rain and wet road, they lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a drain near the 7km point along the highway.
Police officers, who approached the suspects’ car had to dodge bullets, forcing them to return fire, killing both the men in the vehicle.
State CPO SAC I Datuk Mohd Rodwan Mohd Yusof confirmed the identity of the two as Eddy Ramlan Ramli, 44, from Ulu Kinta, Perak, and Jamli Hud, 41, from Chenoh, Pahang of the Kendong Gang.
“The vehicle they had used was reported stolen in Subang in September,” he said at the scene here.
Melaka Tengah OCCI ACP Salehhudin Abd Rahman said an automatic Smith & Wesson pistol, two live rounds and three spent casing, three parang, a wire cutter and a screw driver were recovered from the vehicle.
“The two had previous police records for house break-ins and robberies in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor,” he said, adding that police were investigating the extent of the gangs’ criminal activities and if there were other members still at large.
