Groups want Tamil Lit subject for SPM exam

ELEVEN Indian organisation have submitted a memorandum to the Education Ministry to allow Indian students to take Tamil Literature as an additional subject in the SPM examination, Tamil Nesan reported.

They reportedly said that if the ministry was firm in its decision for SPM students to take only 10 subjects, then these Indian students should be given the option to drop Moral Studies paper for Tamil Literature paper.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr.S.Subramaniam, who received the memorandum on behalf the Education Minister, said the matter would be discussed at the next Cabinet meeting.

He urged the Education ministry to get a solution to the matter before the start of the school term next year.

> Makkal Osai reported that the Indian entrepreneurs have been urged to make full use of the RM20mil allocated specifically for them under the Tekun scheme.

Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk T. Murugiah said the Indian community must take the opportunities available to them.

He also said Indian business organisations must organise more business programmes to ensure more participation from the Indian community.
