Chinese President to visit Malaysia — 15 years on
By CHOW HOW BAN
BEIJING: Chinese President Hu Jintao will visit Malaysia and Singapore from Nov 10 to 15 after a lapse of 15 years.
This will be the first official visit by a Chinese President to both countries.
“It marks a significant milestone for the cooperation between China, Malaysia and Singapore and the development of Sino-Asean relations,” said Assistant Minister of Chinese Foreign Affairs Hu Zhengyue.
Hu Jintao is scheduled to meet Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin at the invitation of the latter; and later Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during a one-day visit, said Zhengyue at a regular press conference at the Foreign Ministry here yesterday.
He added that leaders from China and Malaysia had been having more communications in recent years, and both countries had reaped the fruits of success in their collaboration in finance, culture, education, tourism and other sectors.
“We believe the visit to Malaysia will deepen the strategic cooperation of both countries and steer the already healthy and stable Sino-Malaysia bilateral ties to another level,” he said.
Hu Jintao will arrive at Singapore on Nov 11 to meet Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and attend the 17th Apec Informal Leadership Meeting.
