Three CC members call for second EGM on Nov 28

Group to convene EGM on Nov 28

KUALA LUMPUR: Three requisitionists have called for a second extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on Nov 28 to pave the way for fresh party elections.

Group coordinator Wong Nai Chee announced yesterday that the EGM would be held at Wisma MCA here at 10am.

The other two requisitionists are Datuk Wee Jeck Seng and Datuk Liew Yuen Keong.

“Let the central delegates re-appraise the leadership and make their decisions,” said Wong, adding that letters were sent to central delegates yesterday informing them of the event.

Nai Chee said the central delegates would vote on two resolutions — to hold fresh elections for the committee and to nullify any appointments and terminations made by president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat after Oct 10. If the first resolution was passed, said Nai Chee, fresh polls would have to be conducted within 30 days.

On Wednesday, party secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng said the party’s legal bureau viewed the call for the second EGM as unconstitutional and unworkable. The cost of the second EGM would be borne by the three requisitionists.

In Putrajaya, vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai denied he wanted the EGM held because he was fighting for position.

“Position is not important. What is important is to protect democracy within the party,” he said.

In Kuala Lumpur, party Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the group wanting the second EGM would get it going “even if means taking money out from our own pocket.”
