Najib to attend anniversary dinner of private Chinese school
KUALA LUMPUR: The Chong Hwa Independent High School will create history of sorts next month as the Prime Minister has agreed to grace its 90th anniversary dinner.
This is the first time a prime minister is visiting a private Chinese school while in office.
School principal Hwong Seng said several programmes, including a charity concert, walkathon, education fair and school exhibition had been planned to celebrate the 90th anniversary.
“The celebrations will culminate in a 1,200-table grand dinner at the school on Dec 14,” he said.
The school, founded in 1919, is one of the 61 private Chinese high schools in the country.
In May this year, it received the Five-star Excellent Private School Award from the Education Ministry.
He said the school would arrange 50 buses to run shuttle services to ferry diners to the school and back from nine collection centres in the city.
At a press conference yesterday, the school’s 90th anniversary celebration committee chairman Ho Bok Sing appealed to well- wishers and members of the public to lend support and help make the occasion a success by purchasing tickets to the dinner.
The dinner ticket is RM50 per person. For more information, go to the school’s website at www.chhskl.edu.my or contact 03-6258 7946 or 03 6258 7935.
