Klang Valley storm havoc
PETALING JAYA: A thunderstorm caused havoc in several areas in the Klang Valley, resulting in a landslip and a tree falling on several cars.
The landslip occurred at Taman Jasa Utama in Batu Caves at around 5pm yesterday when a downpour was believed to have dislodged loose soil up a hill.
Soil and mud washed up the front lawns of four houses. The mud was at least 20cm deep and covered 50m of a road.
Civil servant Mohd Kamarulfahim Abu Hassan, 35, said he worried for his family’s safety as it was the third time a landslip had happened this year.
“Two high-rise apartments are being built at the top of that hill, causing the soil to become loose. When it rains, we can actually see the soil being washed away.
“We have complained several times to the Selayang Municipal Council but its response has been lacklustre.
“Is the council waiting for a major disaster and people to lose their lives before action is finally taken?” he said.
In another area in Cheras, a tree was uprooted at 4.30pm due to strong winds, crushing three cars in a shopping centre parking lot.
S. Shainch Subramaniam, 25, from Malacca, said he was shocked to see his Perodua Kancil crushed under the tree after going shopping with his family.
“I hope the shopping centre will compensate me for the damage as it took place inside its parking compound,” he said, adding that a Proton Persona and Perodua Myvi were also badly damaged in the incident.
