Husam drops defamation suit after BN reps apologise

KUALA LUMPUR: The defamation suit brought by Kelantan state executive councillor Datuk Husam Musa against two Barisan Nasional assemblymen was settled on Oct 15 after he withdrew the suit.

Husam, the former PAS vice-president, withdrew the suit after Bukit Bunga’s assemlyman Mohd Adhan Kecik and Paloh’s Datuk Nozula Mat Diah made an open apology in the Malay newspapers in early June.

His counsel, Saiful Izham Ramli, told Bernama Monday that he filed the notice not to proceed with the suit on Oct 15.

In the suit filed on Jan 31 last year, he sought RM6mil in damages from Mohd Adhan, Nozula and the NSTP after the two assemblymen alleged that he was involved in abuse of power and criminal breach of trust in the state government administration and called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate.

The alleged defamatory statement was published in the New Straits Times and Berita Harian on Nov 28, 2007.

Saiful Izham said, however, that the suit against the NSTP was proceeding and would be heard on April 6 next year.

The date was fixed by Deputy Registrar Fatimah Rubi'ayah Ali in chambers. - Bernama
