Practise SPM Add Maths and Physics papers, students told

By IVAN LOH

SITIAWAN: With the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations around the corner, students sitting for the Additional Mathematics and Physics papers should concentrate on answering past years’ questions, said The Star Education columnist Sunny Yee.

They should go through the examination questions for the past ten years, he said.

“Even though the format may be different but students can still practise.

“By attempting the questions, the students can identify their weaknesses and consult teachers for answers to questions they are unsure of,” he said after his talk at the Topical Workshop for Pure Science - Additional Mathematics and Physics at SMK Ahmad Boestaman here yesterday.

Yee noted that most students did not have problems with Physics theories.

However, the students were weak in applying their understanding and knowledge into concise answers.

Yee also advised students never to trust the soalan bocor (leaked questions) gimmick.

“The so-called leaked questions are mostly photocopied from exercise books. If the questions do not appear, students will start to panic and have blackouts,” he added.

Among the 300 students who benefited from the workshop was SMK Samudera student P. Khirtham, 17, who said her confidence grew after attending the session.

Another student, Tan Min Ee, 17, from SMJK Nan Hwa, said Yee even taught them some “shorcuts” on how to answer questions well.

The two-day workshop was sponsored by the Perak Government.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, who closed the ceremony, said the next workshop would incorporate mind-mapping and memory skills training for Form Five students from underprivileged families in 10 districts.
