Businessman advised to settle broken engagement issue out of court
SHAH ALAM: A Syariah Lower Court judge advised a businessman who is claiming compensation from a woman for breaking their engagement to settle the matter out of court.
Judge Kamarulzaman Ali said Muhammad Salleh Muhamad Yusuf and Nur Diana Ahmad Zubir should settle the matter through mediation (sulh) since their syarie lawyers had certificates of mediation.
“Mediation is the best approach because a hearing will only lead to feelings of hatred,” he told the court here yesterday.
Lawyer Ahmad Nazib Johari represented Muhammad Salleh while Abdul Halim Bahari acted for Nur Diana.
Muhammad Salleh and Nur Diana were not present in court.
Earlier, Ahmad Nazib told the court he had received a notice of defence from the defendant and was studying the documents.
He added both parties were in discussion to settle the matter out of court and asked for a new date for mention of the case.
Kamarulzaman then fixed the case for mention on March 19.
Muhammad Salleh, 46, had claimed compensation of RM70,000 from Nur Diana, 28, after their engagement was broken in December, one month before the wedding.
The engagement was broken by Nur Diana’s father through two SMS messages to Muhammad Salleh on Dec 4 last year. — Bernama
