Serial rapist ‘cabbie’ caught
KUALA LUMPUR: A serial rapist who drives a taxi to lure his victims was arrested at a hospital here when members of the public recognised him from a photo-fit (pic) released by the police.
The man, allegedly responsible for the rape of at least seven women in the Klang Valley, was nabbed on Feb 11 when he went to the hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in a drug deal that went awry.
The suspect, who had managed to elude capture since Jan 20, is also believed to be a suspected drug dealer.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the suspect was not a taxi driver and the taxi he used to lure his victims had been reported stolen in Kuang, Rawang.
“Members of the public recognised the 31-year-old man from the photo-fit which we released to the media last week,” he said.
“Our investigations also revealed that the stolen taxi was burnt by the same people who injured the suspect during the drug deal.”
SAC Ku said investigations also revealed that although the rapist preyed on many victims, police had so far received only two reports.
He urged all victims of the serial rapist to come forward and assist police in their investigations and also help to identify the suspect.
SAC Ku said police had obtained a one-week remand order to facilitate investigations.
The rapist’s last victim was a 27-year-old clerk who was taken on a terror ride before being raped several times. The rapist even had the cheek to demand taxi fare from her after sending her home several hours later.
