Woman’s skull fractured in ‘attack by maid’

By TAN SIN CHOW

GEORGE TOWN: A 42-year-old woman, who suffered a fracture to her skull and had to have nearly 100 stitches all over the body, has claimed she was attacked by her maid.

Factory worker Phang Kian Huang, alleged that the maid attacked her with a wooden stool, a knife and a mortar at her apartment in Rifle Range during the 11am incident on Thursday.

Several of her ribs were fractured and left ear almost severed in the violent attack.

She had to have 65 stitches on her head and neck, more than 20 stitches to rejoin her left ear and another 10 stitches on both knees.

Relating her ordeal, Phang said she was fast asleep in her room when the maid suddenly stormed in and attacked her with the stool.

“I asked her if she wasn’t afraid of murdering me and she said no as she would be committing suicide later,” said Phang.

“She left and came back with a knife and started slashing. I pretended to lose consciousness. She left but she returned a third time and this time, she threw a mortar at me twice, fracturing my skull and several ribs,” she said when met at the Penang Hospital on Friday.

Phang said she managed to crawl out to safety after discovering her Indonesian maid had gone out.

“I sought my neighbours’ help. I asked them to call my two children’s school as I was afraid that my maid would pick them up and harm them.

“The neighbours called the police and ambulance to take me to the hospital at about 12.30pm.”

Phang said the maid, who had been working with her the past 21 months, brought her children home before she was sent to the hospital.

“She pretended as if nothing had happened and told the police that I was a robbery victim. She had messed up my house and acted as if someone had ransacked the house for valuables.

“I believe that my maid, who has since been arrested, was upset as we had had an argument a day earlier.

When contacted, George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid confirmed that a police report has been lodged, and added that the maid had been remanded for a week pending investigations.
