No frogs among DAP reps, says Ngeh

IPOH: Perak DAP chief Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham has denied that one or more of the party’s state representatives may jump ship.

He blamed the media and rumour-mongers for creating confusion among the state representatives.

“Some say Jalong assemblyman Leong Mee Meng will jump, others say Keshvinder Singh, assemblyman for Malim Nawar, will jump.

“So many (rumoured to be jumping), but I know for sure that they are still with the party,” Ngeh told reporters after chairing the party’s state emergency meeting yesterday, called to clarify rumours circulating in media and through SMSes over the party’s state of affairs.

However, state Deputy Speaker Hee Yit Fong, who had denied that she was crossing over to Barisan Nasional, was missing from the meeting.

Ngeh said Hee could not make it because she received the notice late Sunday night.

“Not everyone came because it was very sudden,” he said.

Ngeh said another reason Hee did not attend was because she was fed up with the media attention.

“It has become a nuisance,” he added.

Asked why DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had issued the statement that any Perak DAP assemblyman who could not be contacted within 24 hours would be assumed as intending to quit his post, Ngeh said:

“Because you have created all the uncertainty, we wanted all of them to be in contact with us.”

In George Town, Lim said Perak assemblymen were being “unduly sensitive” to his statement that all party assemblymen should be in close contact during this time of uncertainty.

“Because things are moving very fast in Perak, it is only reasonable to expect all assemblymen to stay in close contact with the party leadership at this time,” he told a press conference yesterday.
