MTUC and Cuepacs laud plan
THE Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) lauds the second economic stimulus package announced by the Government, saying that it would ease the people’s burden.
Its president Syed Shahrir Syed Mohamud said the congress was happy with the various plans aimed at helping retrenched workers, those temporarily laid off and even those who were still employed but now earning less.
“RM60bil is a huge sum that can surely help the people and the economy but it is important that the programmes under it are carefully planned and executed so they will achieve the intended results. Otherwise, it will be a waste,” he said.
Syed Shahir said the Government should also consider setting up a retrenchment fund.
Meanwhile, Cuepacs also welcomed the stimulus package, saying it believes the package would help stabilise the economy.
Its president Omar Osman said Cuepacs was happy to hear of the immediate creation of 50,000 jobs followed by the creation of a further 13,000 jobs on contract basis.
