Cop denies bribery charge
ALOR SETAR: A traffic policeman claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to a charge of accepting RM180 as an inducement not to issue a summons against a motorist.
Kpl Nordin Muhamad Nor, 46, of the Kota Star traffic police division, was charged with receiving the money from Khoo Shu Shan at the Teluk Wanjah roundabout here at about 6.40pm on Nov 1.
Khoo was allegedly stopped by Kpl Nordin for riding a motorcycle without a licence and road tax.
The accused was charged under Section 11(a) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and fine not exceeding five times the bribe amount or RM10,000.
Judge Chan Jit Li set bail at RM3,000 and fixed April 2 for re-mention of the case.
Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission Deputy Public Prosecutor Fieza Fazlin Fandi prosecuted.
