Be software creators for the world
CYBERJAYA: Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has thrown a challenge to young Malaysians - create software and applications that can be used by world technologies.
“I want Malaysians to show off their talents and creativity. At the same time, companies should not be reluctant to develop communication facilities and infrastructure because investments made in this field will certainly come back to you,” he said.
The Prime Minister was speaking at the launching of the Maxis iPhone 3G here yesterday, where he had a “live session” with the telecommunications company’s corporate customers at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Abdullah said he was happy the iPhone had reached Malaysia, especially when several local content developers had successfully created made-in-Malaysia applications for the App Store by Apple.
Gotcha: Chong Chee Hong, Maxis first iPhone 3G customer gleefully testing out his new prized possession at the KL Convention Centre Friday. “I am proud of the local content developers and hope this will push them further to attain success,” he added.
At the function, the Prime Minister presented awards to Infindo Technology Sdn Bhd, Manga Blackbox and Pxing Game Studio for the iPhone Application Developers Award while the iPhone Most Promising Application Award went to Terato Tech and Murasu Systems Sdn Bhd.
Maxis chief executive officer Sandip Das said as the nation’s leading operator, Maxis has always stood for innovation and distinctive customer experiences.
“We are pleased to launch the iPhone 3G in Malaysia. Mobile users will enjoy the many embedded and downloadable applications from the first time they use the iPhone 3G,” he said.
“Malaysians are among the highest Internet and data users in the world and the iPhone 3G will further enliven their mobile experiences with Maxis,” he said, adding that the company will be investing about RM1.6bil in its networks this year.
