40,000 give rousing reception at Najib’s homecoming
KUANTAN: Some 40,000 people gathered at Padang MPK 1 here yesterday to give Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak a rousing welcome and warm homecoming reception.
“I have come to Pahang countless times but this time around, the feeling is so different.
“I am so touched and choked with emotion because with Allah’s will and your prayers, I have returned to Pahang as the sixth Prime Minister,” he said to the loud applause of the crowd.

It was Najib’s first trip to his hometown and constituency of Pekan as Prime Minister. — NIK NAIZI HUSIN / The Star Najib added that the journey to the country’s premier post took him 33 long years, from the time he became active in politics as the Pekan Umno Youth chief.
He believed that he would not have become an Umno president or the prime minister without the solid support and trust of the Pahang people,
“I ask that you continue to give me full support and trust so this native son of Pahang will continue to take care of you and continue the legacy of my late father,” he added.
Najib also paid tribute to former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for making him a successor and urged the crowd to appreciate Abdullah’s leadership.
Abdullah, he said, had laid the foundations for a peaceful and proper power transition.
