MACC arrests CEO in RM1.3mil graft over defence deal

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission(MACC) has arrested a company Chief Executive Officer for alleged graft involving RM1.3mil linked to a Defence Ministry arms deal worth RM41.5mil.
An MACC statement said that the 54-year-old CEO had appointed a company to be a sub-contractor to provide defence equipment to the ministry.
He was arrested at about 12pm Friday shortly after he gave a statement to the MACC officers in Shah Alam.
He was later released on a RM30,000 bail pending investigations classified under Section 11(a) Anti Corruption Act 1997.
In another case, the MACC also arrested an executive of a telecommunication company for receiving graft worth about half a million and is being investigated under Section 16(a) Anti Corruption Act 1997.
The 38-year-old man received the money as compensation for appointing a vendor to supply electrical power accessories worth RM16mil.
He was arrested on March 31 at about 11.30am after he came to the MACC office to make a statement. He is in remand till Saturday.
