PKR’s hyped up announcement a big letdown
SUNGAI PETANI: The major announcement that PKR had hyped up on Friday turned out to be a big disappointment - it amounted to a crossover of PPP members to PKR.
The announcement was made by Sungai Petani PKR MP Johari Abdul minutes after Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the Hock Teik Soo Hall in Sungai Lalang near here for a ceramah last night.
Anwar received the application forms from the 1,500 members who were led by PPP vice-president Datuk V. Nadarajan.
Johari said they were from 11 divisions, including six in Kedah.
When addressing the crowd later, Nadarajan claimed that there were actually 6,000 PPP members who had decided to join PKR.
PKR strategic planning director Saifudin Nasution Ismail said the crossovers were a major moral booster for PKR and built up the momentum for the party to retain the Bukit Selambau state seat.
Saifudin had on Friday said the surprise was indirectly linked to the swearing-in of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as the nation’s sixth Prime Minister.
In an immediate response, Kedah PPP chairman R. Daass said that no one had left the party.
“We did not receive any resignation letters. They can claim whatever but as far as we are concerned, nobody has left the party because they did not return their membership cards,” he said.
