A (H1N1): Schools to follow Health Ministry hygiene procedures

KUALA TERENGGANU: Schools in the country must adhere to strict hygiene procedures issued by the Health Ministry in a move to contain outbreak of the Influenza A (H1N1) virus among students and teachers.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who made the directive said the school management has to adhere to the guidelines that had been issued to schools by the Education Ministry.
“The guideline is the same as those issued to other departments and would be updated accordingly by the Education Ministry,” said Muhyiddin, also the Education Minister, after launching the 38th national-level Teacher’s Day Celebration at Islamic Civilisation Park at Pulau Wan Man here Saturday.
He added that the ministry will closely monitor the situation and embark on precautionary measures if the need arose.
“Now the situation is under control and if all adhere to the guideline, the virus can be contained without reaching an alarming stage,” he said, adding that schools should also abide by all instructions by relevant agencies besides the Health Ministry.
Assuring the public that the situation was under control, he said the Health Ministry had adequate expertise and efficiency to contain the virus from turning into a pandemic.
A second Malaysian, a female student in the United States, has been confirmed with the virus infection and was at the Penang Hospital isolation ward.
As in the first case, she too only developed fever after returning home and the results of medical test by the Medical Research Institute this morning confirmed she had the influenza.
She is one of 16 suspected A(H1N1) patients warded at various hospital around the country.
