PETALING JAYA: A total of 80 bloggers and RedFM SMS on-air winners experienced a day filled with Star Trek adventures, at The Star’s Studio V, in the new wing of One Utama here Friday.
The event, called First Contact at Studio V, was held in conjunction with the All-Malaysian Bloggers Project (AMBP) 2009 gathering that began at 1.30pm.
Big fans: Trekkers who came to the First Contact at Studio V all dressed up in Star Trek uniforms Friday. It was the third such gathering since AMBP was launched two years ago, and the theme for this year revolved around the release of the new Star Trek movie that will be out on May 7.
In line with the theme, some fans came dressed in the Star Trek uniforms of blue, red and yellow, complete with lapel pin, false hair and even pointed ears fashioned after the character Spock.
The event was held in collaboration with United International Pictures (UIP), RedFM, Outpost Cafe & Hobby Centre, and Gophers Technologies.
“Our plan was to encourage people and fans of Star Trek to come forth and enjoy the games as well as the special screening of the movie,” said head of The Star’s All-Malaysia.Info portal, Michael A. Fredericks.
UIP marketing director Kara Lee said the pre-screening, which was enjoyed by more than 300 participants and guests, would give a chance for a new generation to appreciate it.
“When the bloggers write about it, a new generation of fans will be born. You don’t have to be a trekker to understand or watch the movie,” she added.
The day began for the participants with RedFM deejays JD and Dilly from The Breakfast Show organising an ice-breaker session followed by a treasure trek, which challenged the participants’ hunting skills as they were sent running all over the mall.
Grand Prize winners of the trek were Raudha Ezaty Ruslan, 29, and her spouse Azmin Mohd Khalib, 31, from Team REA who won Gophers GPS navigators and cash voucher of RM200.
The second-prize winners, who won Ipod Shuffles and cash vouchers of RM200, were Suresh Kumar, 42, and Liew Sue Yin, 31, of U2 Team.
The third prize, comprising a RM200 cash voucher, went to Michael Ooi, 27, and Owen Onn, 26, from the Sweat Like Hell Team.
All three teams also won T-shirts, caps, GP cash vouchers of RM30 and limited edition posters.
Besides the treasure trek, there was also a Star Trek Trivia challenge that tested fans’ knowledge of the entire series as well as a lucky draw.
