17 under isolation found to be free of A (H1N1)

PUTRAJAYA: Health authorities have cleared 17 of 26 people isolated on Sunday at various hospitals against influenza A (H1N1).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the remaining nine were still waiting for laboratory test results.

On Sunday, 11 people were sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Six other were warded in Kuala Lumpur Hospital, four in Tuanku Jaafar Hospital (Seremban) and two in Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (Ipoh).

There was a case each at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (Johor Baru), Queen Elizabeth and the Duchess of Kent hospitals in Sabah.

“In Malaysia, 10,201 people who entered the country were screened over the past 24 hours, of which the majority arrived via flights,” Dr Ismail said yesterday.

Since the outbreak, 190,987 people have been screened at various entry points, with 150,000 tested at the airports.

Dr Ismail said Malaysia remained free of local transmission of the influenza A (H1N1) but advised the public to continue to observe hygiene and update themselves on the disease.

He said the leptospirosis situation at the Juru Immigration detention centre was under control.

He also said 68 of the 199 Kuantan Mara Science College (MRSM) students - infected with the seasonal influenza H3 and isolated in rooms on campus - had been cleared of the virus and allowed to go home.

He said 12 of 18 students from Sekolah Model Khas Bukit Jenun in Kedah had also been discharged from hospital, with three more coming out today.
