Selangor Sultan in stable condition after surgery
PALO ALTO, USA: The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah is in stable condition after a 10-hour open heart surgery at the Stanford University Medical Centre here in California.
The surgery involved the repair and not replacement of a leaking valve for “mitral regurgitation,” which was decided by the surgery team during the procedure, private aide to the Sultan, Kelvin Ong, said in a statement today.
The surgery team was led by Stanford University Medical Centre’s Professor Dr. Craig Miller and Professor Dr Alan Yeung.
Ong said Sultan Sharafuddin, 63 is now recovering in the Intensive Care Unit of the medical centre and the doctors have advised a strict “no-visitors” policy.
Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya specialist doctor and personal physician to the Sultan, Datuk Dr Anuar Masduki, was given special permission to be in the operating theatre during surgery, Ong said.
He added that before the operation, Tuanku said to thank all Malaysians especially Selangorians for their kind thoughts and prayers.
Sultan Sharafuddin has been advised to rest and recuperate for about three weeks in hospital.
