Youthful Wales side beats Estonia 1-0 in friendly
LLANELLI, Wales: Robert Earnshaw's first goal for Wales in 17 months clinched a 1-0 friendly win over Estonia on Friday.
The 28-year-old striker, the most experienced player in a very youthful Wales team, dispatched a 26th-minute penalty to claim his 14th international goal in 44 appearances.
Icelandic referee Magnus Thorisson awarded the spot kick after first-time captain Joe Ledley's shot was handled just inside the penalty area by defender Alo Barengrub.
Due to injuries and withdrawals, Wales fielded its youngest ever side, with an average age of just 21. It gave manager John Toshack a glimpse into the future as he focuses on qualifying for the 2012 European Championship with the 2010 World Cup out of sight.
The Welsh youngsters showed plenty of endeavor, but could not claim further goals to underline their superiority. - AP
