Argentine baby first in country to die of H1N1 flu
BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Argentine health officials said on Monday a three-month-old baby died of the new H1N1 flu virus, the first fatal victim in the South American country.
The number of H1N1 cases has been climbing in Chile and Argentina in recent days as winter approaches in the southern hemisphere.
Argentine officials said they did not know exactly how the baby was infected with the virus, which contains genetic material from bird, swine and human flu viruses.
The World Health Organization said on Monday that 76 countries had reported 35,928 cases of the H1N1 flu virus, with 163 deaths.
