Hunt on for "top management" of Ah Long group
SHAH ALAM: Police are hunting for six loan sharks high on their wanted list including leaders of a notorious group of Ah Long in Selangor.
Selangor police released yesterday photographs of four people, said to be in the “top management” of Ah Long group K9 Crystal Gems Enterprise.
They are Franco @ Ong Lee Kok, 32, from Taman Cheras Indah, said to be in charge of the group in Selangor, Ah Fatt @ Chan Ching Fatt, 22, from Puchong, allegedly in charge of Klang, Yong Hock Fai @ Alex @ Fei Kai Sau @ Ah Fai, 25, in charge of Ampang and described as violent, and his assistant Lee Chin Onn @ Kai Chi, 23, from Pandan Perdana, allegedly responsible for abductions.
Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said a manhunt had been mounted for the six, who had earlier been advised to give themselves up.
“We believe all of them are still in Selangor,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters yesterday.
DCP Khalid said the group was well organised, with a headquarters, offices in various places, and people taking care of accounts, debt collection, abduction, splashing paint, distributing posters and others.
He said the police had recovered posters, paint, glue and some 200 files of debtors complete with their profiles and photographs from a house in Taman Bukit Permai Ampang following the arrest of two brothers, aged 28 and 29 years, on Saturday.
Last week, police rescued three men who abducted after falling behind on their debt payments.
The men who were from Seri Kembangan, Gombak and Pandan Indah who chained, locked up in a toilet and tortured.
“There may be more ‘lock-up’ cases which we have yet to discover and we hope the public will report such cases to the police,” he said, adding that initial investigation showed that the K9 group had been operating since 2006 with daily debt collection of RM40,000.
DCP Khalid said five suspects had been arrested and remanded, and there should be more arrested.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said all airports and exit points in the country had been alerted to be on the lookout for the wanted men, and their photographs had been distributed nationwide.
“We are determined to get them and appeal to all those who know them or their whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.
“The grace period given to them is up and we will go all out to get them,” he said, adding that the police were also working closely with the Housing and Local Government Ministry, which was responsible in the issuance of licences to moneylenders, to tackle the menace.
He said he would also discuss with the ministry the possibility of restricting the issuance of licences to moneylenders.
