End of an era for La Salle’s brother HMs
GEORGE TOWN: Brother Paul Ho, the last of La Salle’s brother principals in Malaysia, was given a grand send-off by staff and students of the St Xavier’s Institution (SXI) in Farquhar Street yesterday.
Brother Paul, who was the first local to serve as principal in the school’s 157-year history, retired on Friday after serving nearly 16 years at the school.
Students gave Brother Paul a memorable send-off at St Xavier's Institution Saturday Asked if there was anything he had not implemented during his tenure as principal in the school, he said: “I haven’t had the chance to repaint the school!”
There was a tinge of sadness in the air as Brother Paul toured the school grounds for the last time as principal.
Brother Paul also released 157 heart-shaped balloons at the function, to symbolise the school’s success for every year since its inception and planted a tree.
He was then carried out of the school building in a sedan chair.
He plans to tour Europe and the United States and may move to Australia to be with his family.
