No community will be oppressed, promises Muhyiddin
MUAR: Umno will fight to the last drop of blood to protect Malay rights, the status of the Malay Rulers, Bahasa Malaysia and Islam as these matters are enshrined in the Constitution.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would also fight to defend the rights of other races to ensure no one community would be oppressed.
He said the Malays should not compromise on these matters and urged them, including those living in Cherok Tuk Kun, to unite in protecting their rights.
“I mentioned Cherok Tuk Kun in Penang because of Pakatan Rakyat leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who has sold his principles for politics.
“He is willing to destroy Malay unity, the Malay rights and even wanted to bring the Malayan Communist Party leader Chin Peng back,” he said when opening a programme for the younger generation (Perwaris) in Kampung Jayor here yesterday.
Earlier, he told Pagoh MCA division members that Barisan leaders at all levels should adopt a new approach to regain the confidence of Chinese voters.
Warm welcome: Muhyiddin meeting MCA members as he arrives for the Pagoh MCA Wanita and Youth meeting yesterday. At left is Pagoh MCA division chief Gan Hong Su. He said the new solidarity concept approach could rejuvenate the fighting spirit of not only Umno members, but all component party members in Barisan.
He said the election showed that the Malays had stopped supporting Umno, the Chinese were not supporting MCA and Gerakan and the Indians were not supporting MIC and PPP.
He said the component parties had their own problems while trying to resolve both internal and national issues and this made the people think they were split and weak.
“The matter was made worse when we in Barisan did not speak in one voice. We want to change all these.”
Muhyiddin said the Government paid about RM1.8bil in salaries every year to teachers in national schools.
He said it was not fair for the Chinese community to accuse the Barisan Government of ignoring the needs of Chinese schools.
Muhyiddin said the Government would like to acknowledge and help the Chinese independent schools but the schools did not follow the national education system and policies.
He said he could not go against Government policies by providing assistance or acknowledging these schools’ examination certificates.
Earlier, Pagoh MCA chairman Gan Hong Su urged the Government to recognise the certificates of those from Chinese independent schools.
