Cabinet to probe Jaya Supermarket building collapse
KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet has set up a committee to investigate the Jaya Supermarket building collapse.
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the committee, which would be coordinated by his ministry, would call for a meeting next week.
“The committee will investigate if regulations had been adhered to and if the demolition had been properly carried out according to the standard operating practice,” Kong said.
The committee, he added, would also look into a report to be provided by the Petaling Jaya city council.
“If there is a need, the committee will appoint professional engineers to come up with a report,” he told reporters after the Cabinet meeting yesterday.
The committee, he added, would decide when the report would be ready.
Other members in the committee include representatives from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, the Construction Industry Development Board, the Board of Engineers Malaysia, the Petaling Jaya City Council, Fire and Rescue Department, legal advisors and police.
