Drunk youth rapes toddler

MIRI: A three-year-old girl was brutally raped by a youth at a rural longhouse settlement following a long Gawai drinking spree.

The girl, who suffered massive bleeding, was admitted at the Miri Hospital.

Sources said villagers found the toddler groaning in pain and bleeding profusely in a hut near the longhouse in Bekenu, 80km from here, on Monday evening.

When they brought her back, the girl related to her mother that a 16-year-old youth from the longhouse had led her to the hut, taken off her panties and “did something to her”.

“The villagers made a citizen’s arrest after she pointed out the suspect to the residents.

“The suspect, who was loitering near the longhouse in a state of intoxication, did not put up a fight,” said the sources, adding that the teenager had been arrested by police.

Villagers said the suspect, who was working at a farm near the longhouse belonging to the victim’s grandfather, had been drinking heavily during the harvest festival.

“I can only confirm we have arrested a suspect. We cannot reveal too much as it involves a minor,” said Miri police deputy chief Supt Ismail Paduka Idris yesterday.

In Johor Baru, a 21-year-old man claimed trial at a Sessions Court to raping a 14-year-old girl in Pontian.

Fandi Abdullah, from Kampung Jawa, Kota Tinggi, is accused of committing the offence at 738A, Level 1, Medan Koop in Pontian between 12.34am and 4.20am on May 26.

Judge Aliman Musri fixed bail at RM10,000 after Fandi said he only earned RM700 a month as a factory worker while his widowed mother earned RM500 as a cleaner, and fixed Aug 6 for mention.

In another case, Azahari Samsudin, 25, was discharged and acquitted of drug possession after Sessions Court judge Zainol Rashid Hussin ruled that there were discrepancies in the witnesses’ testimony.

Meanwhile, Penangite Cheah Seng Wei, 33, was charged with three counts of drug possession at a hotel in Johor Baru at 6pm on May 27.

He is accused of having 7.7gm of heroin, 5gm of Nimetazepam (18 pills), and 0.9gm of methamphetamine. The court fixed Sept 3 for mention.
