Koh: DAP should also publish promises to residents

KUALA LUMPUR: Former chief minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, in welcoming his successor Lim Guan Eng’s move to declassify files relating to the Kampung Buah Pala issue, said the DAP should “do the same by publishing the chronology of the promises” it had made to residents there.

“I haven’t seen what Lim had released. I was told that there was a chronology of the minutes of the exco meeting. I welcome it and we have nothing to hide.

“But, the DAP shouldn’t run away from the core issue because the party made a lot of promises, which resulted in the people giving their support to the Opposition.

“If the DAP is responsible, accountable and consistent as what they had claimed to be, then I’m asking them to do the same with respect to their promises,” he told reporters at Parliament House yesterday after announcing the details of the 1Malaysia Futsal Carnival event.

In George Town, former state executive councillors also welcomed the declassification of the files but said more details were needed.

Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan urged the state government to release the actual exco meeting minutes and not just a summary of what had conspired.

“The declassification is good but they should declassify all the relevant parts of the documents that have relevant information to the case,” he said when contacted.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng blamed ‘land robbers’ for the failed meeting with Kampung Buah Pala residents.

“The refusal of residents to meet with me and the state government is regrettable and displays an aggression, hostility and even arrogance that is puzzling,” he said.

On Wednesday, some 20 Kampung Buah Pala villagers turned away from their planned meeting with Lim after their lawyers were not permitted to participate.

Meanwhile, the High Court has fixed July 16 to hear the application from the villagers to set aside Nusmetro Venture (P) Sdn Bhd’s writ of vacant possession which will come into effect on Aug 3.
