Gerakan gives CM ultimatum over bungalow
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan Youth has given a three-day ultimatum to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to answer its queries on the luxury bungalow where he is now temporarily staying pending repairs to his official residence or step down.
Its vice-chairman, H’ng Khoon Leng, said they would make a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission should Lim fail to do so by Wednesday.
“His act in avoiding the issue has resulted in various speculations and the latest is that the renovation cost for his bungalow is said to be more than RM1.5mil.
“Being a responsible leader who practises the Competency, Accoun- tability and Transparency (CAT) principle, he should answer the queries but he has remained silent,” he said in a press conference at the Gerakan headquarters yesterday.
H’ng said the people need to know, among others, if Lim’s new house has got a tenancy agreement, the length of the tenancy period and the rental cost and if Lim knew the renovation involved a lot of money.
“If Lim has got nothing to hide, he should have held a house-warming party and invited everyone to visit his new house,” he added.
