MACC must be held responsible, says Lim
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Com-mission (MACC) should bear full responsibility for Teoh Beng Hock’s death as the latter had been in its custody.
“We have lost a bright young idealistic DAP member,” said the Penang chief minister.
Lim said unless the commission cleared its name, the public would suspect that Teoh was mistreated and that it had a hand in his death.
“There must be full transparency and accountability.”
DAP deputy chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw said the incident should not have happened and that the police must investigate the death.
“It is a sad thing,” he told reporters after attending a Public Accounts Committee hearing here yesterday.
He said some people could not take the psychological pressure when being questioned and investigated.
“Their thinking might not be right (when being questioned) but that doesn’t mean they are automatically guilty,” he said.
DAP publicity secretary Tony Pua, who is the PJ Utara MP, said the commission should be held responsible for Teoh’s death since he had been under its custody.
