No record of Raja Petra in Australia, court told

PETALING JAYA: There is no record that Malaysia Today news portal editor Raja Petra Raja Kamaruddin has set foot in Australia, a deputy public prosecutor revealed yesterday.

DPP Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said the police had checked with the Immigration Department and found no records of Raja Petra visiting Australia.

“The Australian police have also confirmed that Raja Petra is not in that country, contrary to media reports,” DPP Mohd Dusuki said in his submission at the Sessions Court here yesterday.

DPP Mohd Dusuki was responding to a claim by the defence that not enough effort had been put in by the prosecution to execute the arrest warrant against Raja Petra, which was first issued on April 23, for failing to turn up for his criminal defamation trial.

59-year-old Raja Petra, had on July 17 last year claimed trial to three counts of criminal defamation over his statutory declaration on the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.

He is alleged to have defamed Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor in a libellous statement in a declaration he affirmed on June 18.

Raja Petra also faces two similar charges pertaining to Lt-Kol Norhayati Hassan and her husband Lt-Kol Abdul Aziz Buyong.

He is said to have committed the offences at the Jalan Duta court complex at 10.25am on June 18 last year.

DPP Mohd Dusuki said various efforts had been taken to serve the arrest warrant and show-cause notice to his wife and bailor Marina Lee Abdullah, the last attempt being on July 7.

However, when the police went to his residence that day, no one was at home, DPP Mohd Dusuki added.

Sessions Court judge Rozina Ayob then extended the execution of the arrest warrant to Oct 12 after DPP Mohd Dusuki said that there were “signs” which could lead them to tracing and arresting Raja Petra by then.
