Family: Don’t politicise death, we want Royal Commission
ALOR GAJAH: Teoh Leong Hwee has appealed to everyone to stop politicising the death of his son Teoh Beng Hock.
“Our family is not politically aligned to any party. But we want to know the truth about Beng Hock’s death,” he said, adding that the family did not want his son’s death to be turned into a political issue.
Speaking at the family home at Taman Seri Kelemak here, Teoh expressed hope that the Government would set up a Royal Commission to investigate his son’s death following the statement by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that the matter would be brought up at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.
Parents’ wish: Teoh Leong Hwee (second from right) and his wife Teng Shuw Hor want a Royal Commission of Inquiry to be set up to investigate their son’s death. The family would only accept findings by a Royal Commission of Inquiry and not any explanation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or the police.
“We will not accept whatever explanation given by the MACC or the police as we have no confidence in their impartiality,” said the 62-year-old taxi driver.
Meanwhile, Teoh’s two-month pregnant fiancee Soh Cher Wei said she was now uncertain about her future.
“We had discussed raising a family in Malacca. He had planned to resign as political secretary and find a job here in Malacca but now I think I will move back to Batu Pahat to be near my parents,” she said.
“My parents advised me to return to Batu Pahat and I will be applying for three months’ leave from the school I am teaching in and move back there. But I may stay with Beng Hock’s family if they ask me to,” she added.
In Shah Alam, pposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has denied politicising Beng Hock’s death.
“Somebody is dead. I’m just being responsible. That’s why I went to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission office.
“Somebody died under the supervision of an enforcement body. If this had happened in any other country, it would be a big deal,” he said yesterday.
