T'gganu to get Brit consultant to probe stadium roof collapse
By R.S.N. MURALI
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government will appoint a consultant from Britain to determine the actual cause of the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium roof collapse in Gong Badak here on June 6.
Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said the government had earlier rescinded the decision to establish its own investigation team to avoid any clash with the team set up by the Federal Government.
“However, after taking into account the necessity of having an independent investigation panel, the state government decided to appoint a reliable firm for the task.
“The British consultant that we are close to appointing also has a regional office in Kuala Lumpur,” he said here late Thursday.
Ahmad said the British firm -- which he declined to name -- would submit its investigation papers to the state government, while the Federal team will answer to the Cabinet.
He said his administration decided on its own probe team because the state government also had to take responsibility for the incident.
Ahmad said the consultant, once appointed, will be given three months to produce a probe on the roof collapse at the east wing of the RM292mil stadium.
He said the state government was currently discussing the fee to be paid, and other issues, before officially appointing the consultant.
