Electronics sector looking up again with more demand
By DAVID TAN and YVONNE TAN
PETALING JAYA: The electronics and electrical sector in Malaysia is hiring again.
Badly affected by the global economic downturn late last year which resulted in voluntary separation schemes and four-day work weeks, the sector is now in need of manpower as fresh orders are coming in from the Asia-Pacific region, especially China.
Among the developments are:
- The Malaysian-American Electronics Industry said its 17 semiconductor and non-semiconductor companies have started rehiring in the second half this year;
- The sector in Penang, it was reported on Thursday, was in fact facing a shortage of workers; and
- They cautioned that most of the rehiring was in “a very limited and selective” manner.
