Landslides, floods kill 15 in northern Vietnam

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) - Landslides and floods triggered by heavy rains have killed at least 15 people and left 13 others missing in Vietnam's northern mountainous region, disaster officials said Sunday.

In the worst-hit province of Bac Kan, 13 people were killed when landslides buried their homes following heavy rains Friday night, provincial disaster official Nguyen Thi Le said. No other details were available.

Authorities are still searching for 11 others reported missing, she said.

Landslides and floods have cut off roads, telecommunications and power to two of the worst-hit villages, hampering the search and rescue operations, she said.

Floods also have killed two people and left two missing in the neighboring provinces of Cao Bang and Ha Giang, disaster officials there said.
