Crucial priority areas for KPIs identified, says Koh
By LESTER KONG
KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has identified crucial priority areas for ministerial key performance indicators (KPIs) during its weekend retreat, said Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for National Unity and Performance Management said the two-day camp attended by all but two members of the Cabinet, concentrated on each ministry’s key result areas (KRA).
“Members of the Cabinet presented their preliminary key result areas with suggestions for what should be included in their KPIs.
“We looked at each other’s KRAs and KPIs and offered constructive suggestions and criticisms,” Dr Koh said after launching Gerakan’s Satu Hati Fiesta here on Sunday.
He said the Government aimed at establishing KPIs for its ministries in less than one year.
“According to consultants and experts in the field, we have covered in three months what private companies take a year to cover,” he said.
Dr Koh added that the Prime Minister would make an announcement soon on the initiatives and reforms to be implemented as a result of the KPIs.
However, he declined to elaborate on details of each ministry’s KPIs.
“After the work camp, we will fine-tune the details. But in view of the urgency of mitigating the impact of the global economic crisis, we are fast-tracking this initial process,” he said.
Dr Koh added that some ministries were easier to derive KPIs for than others because the indicators were easier to measure.
“Like my own portfolio of national unity, we have to identify what to measure and how to do it,” he said.
