Umno will not tolerate Nik Aziz’s mud-slinging
KUALA KRAI: Umno will not stop criticising PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat as long as the latter continues slinging mud at Umno during the Manek Urai by-election.
Kelantan Umno liaison committee chairman and Barisan Nasional election director Datuk Mustapa Mohamad said a PAS member was leading the party’s followers astray by claiming that they could get spiritual rewards by looking at Nik Aziz’s face.
“PAS is also spreading lies about Umno, claiming that Umno had rejected Islam and was a deviationist group.
“What is true about Umno, whether bad or good, we will admit to it and for what is untrue, we have the responsibility to correct, otherwise the people would be confused and make their own conclusions that would eventually lead to a split among the Malays.
“But the claim that looking at someone’s face could bring spiritual rewards is new to me and I cannot find such a thing in the Quran. If it does exist I want to know where,” said Mustapa, who is also the International Trade and Industries Minister.
He said this to reporters after attending a Majlis Katham Quran (a celebration for students after they have completed reading the entire Quran) at SMK Laloh here yesterday.
Mustapa was commenting on some newspaper reports that it was a PAS strategy to allow Umno to criticise Nik Abdul Aziz as it would help their chances of defending Manek Urai.
He stressed that Umno had never forsaken Islam in its struggle for the people all these years.
“I am perplexed that whenever I pray in a mosque I find many people who have different political allegiances there praying as well to the same God but when they disperse they start slandering.
