Boys in black, white and blue to mass at courthouse
By SIRA HABIBU
PETALING JAYA: It is going to be a black and white day today at the High Court where Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy case is to be heard.
The Opposition Leader’s supporters will be wearing black while cliques of plaintiff Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan will be wearing white T-shirts. The black will, however, dominate the scene as PKR Youth has arranged for some 5,000 supporters to turn up at the court’s compound.
The police are prepared to tackle any possible commotion outside the court, apparently aimed at diverting attention from the proceedings that has gained international attention.
On March 10, Anwar had pleaded not guilty to a charge of sodomising his former aide Saiful, 23, at a condominium in Bukit Damansara on June 26 last year.
On July 2, the Court of Appeal dismissed Anwar’s appeal against an order to move the sodomy case from the Sessions Court to the High Court.
The High Court is scheduled to hear Anwar’s applications to obtain the entire CCTV recordings, DNA samples, chemist notes, witness statements, medical reports and other documents related to the sodomy case.
Anwar has also applied for the court to acquit and discharge him of the sodomy charge, or to suspend the proceedings permanently if the prosecution did not comply with the court order to supply him with the documents.
That application, along with the sodomy trial proper, is scheduled to commence today.
PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin had announced that a movement called Kejam (Rakyat’s Movement Rejecting Bad Conspiracy against Anwar) had been formed to show support for their leader throughout the trial period.
Sources close to Saiful said that they too want justice served.
