Muhyiddin: No change in Form Six
PUTRAJAYA: It will be status quo for students in Form Six and those doing Matriculation as they will continue to learn Mathematics and Science in English.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said this was the flexibility that would be allowed.
“They can continue in English as this is a preparatory time for them before they go to university,” he said.
Muhyiddin said this would enable the students to make an immediate adjustment when they went to university. The ministry, he added, would also add English periods for those in Form Six.
“There will be an additional 80 minutes so they will have 280 minutes in total,” he said, adding that there would be additional time for the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) too.
Muhyiddin said the reversal in policy at school level would not affect the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Science-related degrees in public universities.
“I think there will be no changes.”
After 11 years at school, he said the students should have a firm command of Bahasa Malaysia and would have a choice of any language at university level.
“Although their grounding would have been in Bahasa Malaysia, they can decide to continue their studies in English when they get to university,” Muhyiddin said.
