Najib: Apart from loving the country one must have good values
By MAZWIN NIK ANIS
PUTRAJAYA: Patriotism is not just about loving and being loyal to the nation, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
The Prime Minister said to be a patriotic citizen, one must live a life of good values and be committed, dedicated and responsible at work.
“Patriotism is also about abiding by the law, and maintaining the country’s peace and harmony,” he said yesterday when launching the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign in conjunction with the nation’s 52nd National Day celebrations.
Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, Cabinet Ministers and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan.

“I believe there is no other country in the world that is as blessed as Malaysia. Maybe other countries have their advantages but all in all, we are blessed and this is certainly a good country to live in,” he said.
On the 1Malaysia concept which he introduced after taking over as Prime Minister, Najib said it was not a slogan but a direction and guide for the country to reach greater heights and attain more success.
Najib urged Malaysians to take part in the National Day celebrations and show their love for the country by flying the flag at homes, shops, roof-tops of buildings and premises, and on their vehicles.
He later presented the Jalur Gemilang to various government agencies, schools, residents’ associations and non-governmental organisations.
Meanwhile, Dr Rais said this year’s National Day celebrations would be held indoors at the Bukit Jalil stadium, without the traditional parade, in view of the fasting month.
He said the closing of the celebrations would be held in Kuching on Oct 10.
